Kobani University Council Approves Comprehensive Academic Expansion and Launch of New Colleges and Programs

The Kobani University Council held its regular meeting on April 24, 2025, with the participation of council members, representatives of the main centers, as well as representatives from the Student Council and the Women’s Council.
During the meeting, the council discussed a number of issues related to higher education and approved a comprehensive academic expansion plan that includes the establishment of new colleges and departments. This comes as part of ongoing efforts to develop the educational infrastructure and meet the needs of students and the community.
The council’s decisions included:
Opening the College of Architecture
Opening the College of Agricultural Engineering
Upgrading the Medical Institute to the College of Applied Medical Sciences, which will include the departments of Anesthesia, Nursing, Laboratory Sciences, and Emergency Medicine
Opening the Veterinary Institute
Opening the College of Social Sciences, which will include the departments of Philosophy, History, Sociology, and Geology
Upgrading the Geography Institute to an independent university department
Reactivating the Language Institute to offer instruction in Kurdish, Arabic, English, and French
Opening a new department in the College of Education titled “Teaching Methods and Curriculum Design”
In the context of supporting scientific research and enhancing graduate studies, the council also approved the establishment of new master's programs in the following specializations:
Master’s in Law
Master’s in Business Administration
Master’s in English Language
Master’s in Arabic Language
Master’s in Sociology
Work is also underway to launch a PhD program in Kurdish Language and Literature. These programs aim to elevate academic standards, open new horizons for students, and supply the labor market with highly qualified professionals.
The meeting concluded with a series of proposals and recommendations aimed at developing the academic and administrative structure of the university and fostering a stimulating educational environment aligned with the requirements of higher education and the aspirations of students and society.
