The University of Kobani organized a panel discussion on the resistance and liberation of Kobani and the role of women in the struggle, on the occasion of the World Kobani Day, under the title:
"From Nothingness to Existence: Kobani’s Voice to the World", with wide participation from academics and politicians.
The panel focused on three main themes, discussing the resistance and liberation of Kobani, the role of women in the struggle, and the challenges facing the region.
The event began with official speeches delivered by representatives of the university and the Autonomous Administration, followed by a documentary film about World Kobani Day, highlighting the historical and social transformations that the city has experienced.
First Session
The first session opened with a speech by Mahmoud Berxwedan from the General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces, and included writer Sefqan Kobani and politician Gelo Isa, moderated by lawyer Enwer Muslim.
This session focused on “Kobani as a Symbol of Resistance and Its Political, Historical, and Global Dimensions,” emphasizing Kobani’s significance as a symbol of struggle that transcended local boundaries to attain regional and international recognition.
Second Session
The second session, titled “The Kurdish Women’s Freedom Movement and the Resistance of the Era,” featured Dr. Isabelle Kaser and anti-war feminist activist Houzan Mahmoud, moderated by professor Newroz Risho.
Speakers discussed the role of women in building the project of freedom and their contribution to social and political transformation, affirming that the struggle of Kurdish women has become a model of liberation and equality in the region.
Third Session
The third session, titled “Kobani Between the Ruins of War and Prospects for Development,” included Dr. Luqman Guldivê and writer Aras Hiso, and was moderated by professor Hiva Mihemed Ali.
Participants examined current challenges facing the city and the role of Kobani as an intellectual and resistant center in the region.
Conclusion
The panel concluded with open discussions among participants, emphasizing the importance of documenting the Kurdish struggle within its historical and human context, and reaffirming the need to understand Kobani’s resistance as a global symbol of freedom and perseverance.
